Chapa was always interested in art and began drawing when he was three years old. He had an uncle and a brother who were artists and by the time he was in second grade even his classmates recognized his artistic talent. When asked by a substitute teacher in grade school to draw a bell, he accommodated her by drawing a picture complete with a church tower and a bell.
He encourages artists of all ages to develop their artistic abilities. He believes they should work hard to familiarize themselves with the work of those who have gone before, to emulate those whose work they like and to never trace!
"Let your work be a part of you. Express yourself. If you are more gifted than another, help by example. Personally, I can only thank God for my abilities. Arrogant artists never have impressed me. It is not so important to be precise as much as it is to be unique and original. Be happy and creative. Keep busy."
